Connie Clemans

d. October 19, 2015

Poestenkill-Constance “Connie” Clemans, 78, of Poestenkill passed away on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by loved ones following a brief illness.  Born in Schenectady, NY, on July 28, 1937, she was predeceased by her parents, the late Russell A. and Harriet M.Wylie, and her husband of 50 years, Dr. Stephen D. Clemans.
Connie graduated from Albany High School and the State University College at Oneonta where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  Connie spent the last 50 plus years doing what she loved, being a teacher.  She worked for the Averill Park Central School District part-time teaching health at Miller Hill - Sand Lake Elementary School.  In addition, she enjoyed many years as a substitute teacher throughout the district. She was always willing to take on the challenges of teaching any subject and was known to many students as their favorite sub. Connie wholeheartedly enjoyed the teaching community and embraced her many lasting relationships with students and colleagues.
Connie’s cheerful personality, generous nature, and kindhearted ways warmed many hearts throughout the community.  She was known as Mrs. Santa at the Sullivan Jones VFW Post where she presented children with gifts and smiles during the holiday season each year. Connie was also a long time member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed friendships with the members of the congregation.  Gardening was one of Connie’s passions and she could always be seen out beautifying her yard.  In her free time, Connie was an avid supporter of Averill Park High School sporting events and the Sand Lake Center of Arts.  Connie was extremely proud of her five grandsons and enjoyed celebrating their milestones and watching them grow into young men. Her presence will be sorely missed.
This week she was to begin a new chapter in her life by marrying her fiancé Harry Laufer. Together, they shared much happiness and were looking forward to traveling, attending RPI hockey games, and meeting up with old friends from Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.
She is survived by her devoted daughters Christine (Michael) Connors of Canton, OH and Catherine (Timothy) Reasor of Averill Park; her fiancé Harry Laufer of Rome, NY; her five grandsons Ian, Brendan, and Brian Connors and Matthew and Kyle Reasor; her sister Marilynn Duncan of Forest, VA; her brother-in-law David (Christina) Clemans of Cape May, NJ; and several nieces and a nephew.
