West Sand Lake- Donald J. Bradley of Winter Haven, beloved husband and father passed away at his home on June 30, 2016. Donald was born in Green Island on May 17, 1925 son of the late Ella Bradley Bushnell, step-son of the late Thomas Bushnell and had resided in Troy before moving to the Sand Lake area. Don enlisted in the Navy on his 18th birthday and served during the invasion of Germany, driving army troops across the Rhine to the Gold battle shores. They then followed the Army troops through to Belgium, France, Germany and he was honorably discharged in 1946. Don worked at the Norton Company along with developing the Bradley Amusement Park in West Sand Lake. After his retirement Don and Kay developed Bradley Park Subdivision, a 43-lot subdivision in West Sand Lake along with many homes in Rensselaer, Greene, Columbia and Saratoga Counties.
Don loved sports: bowling, Mets baseball, was an avid fan of the Giants football, and knew the names of all the players from the beginning of the Giants original team. He was a founding member of St. Henry’s CYO softball and bowling teams. Don and his daughter De coached “Classie Lassies” for several years and loved the sport so much he played with his son’s softball team until he was 65. He worked with his son Don in the restoration of St. Henry’s Church, and building the Cemetery Vault. He loved his family, his home, was a great son, husband, father, friend and an outstanding builder.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years Catherine E. Doin Bradley, sons Donald J. (Grace) Bradley Jr. and David J. Bradley. Daughters Darlene (Kenneth) Miler and Deann (Lynne) Bradley, his grandchildren Donald J. Bradley III, Patrick Bradley, Amanda Vincent, Brian Bradley, Kelena, Haines, Derek Bradley and Marissa Johnson, step grandchildren Karen and Katie Salisbury and Carolyn Mulheren, great grandchildren Patrick and Emily Bradley, Kyle and Cody Vincent, Jaden Bradley and Landon Haines. Don is also survived by a wealth of beloved brothers in laws, sisters in laws, and numerous nieces, nephews, all who loved him and respected grandpa and “Uncle Don”
Funeral Saturday 11 a.m. at St. Henry’s Church 39 Old Rte. 66 Averill Park.
Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 Glass Lake Averill Park on Friday 4-7 p.m.
Interment St. Jeans Cemetery, Troy.
