Nassau-Doris O. Hestnar, 72, of Hoags Corners Road died on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at her residence after a long illness. Born in Wilmington, Del. Doris was the daughter of the late Theodore August and Doris Brindle Olson. Doris was raised in Trumble, Conn. and had resided in Wappinger Falls for many years. She had taught art at Mt. St. Mary's in Newburgh, and was a parent advocate on the committee for the handicap and also served on the BOCES state board. Doris was involved in politics where she was active in the Republican Party at the national, State and Local levels. She had been a volunteer for Congressman Fish of Dutchess Co. and had also worked on the Reagan campaign. In 1993 Doris moved to Florida where she worked as a special needs coordinator for L.A.R.C. in the Ft. Meyers area. She moved to Nassau in 2010. Doris was the sister of the late Cassandra Scholte. Survivors include her children, Susan Hirsch of Bainbridge, Paul "Scott" (Penny) Manchester of Nassau, Robert Schmand of Fairfax, Va. and Ted Schmand of Nassau; her brother, Theodore Olson of Richmond, Va. along with seven grandchildren and a great-grandson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 4 p.m. at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel, 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake, Averill Park. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral chapel on Saturday 2-4 p.m. prior to the service. If desired donations in memory of Doris O.
