Newport News VA. /Averill Park- Geraldine A. “Geri” McNamara, 90, passed away peacefully during the night at her daughter’s home in Newport News, VA on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.
Born and raised in Springfield, MA. Geri was the daughter of the late Henry and Grace Burke. Geri moved to Averill Park in 1969 after meeting and marrying David McNamara. They were wed by the then mayor of Saratoga Springs, NY and on the day the US astronauts first walked on the moon, June 20, 1969.
Geri earned her Masters Degree in Library Science, graduating Cum Laude and continued on in her studies to earn the title of Certified Medical Librarian. For many years Geri worked at the Albany School of Nursing until her retirement.
Geri’s favorite place to be was at her home with David on Glass Lake in Averill Park, where they resided for 38 years. She enjoyed traveling, trying to take one of her adult children and a grandchild on a special vacation every couple of years. She loved gardening with her grandchildren, gourmet cooking and entertaining family and friends as often as she could. She was a true Cancer-ian Earth Mother.Geri was predeceased by her beloved David, her parents and her sister Dorothy Knight. Geri leaves to mourn her loss her 6 children Michael (Ann Marie Luck) Henchey, Thomas Henchey, Christine (Arthur) Barnes, Peter (Karen) Henchey, Patricia (Nathaniel) Whipple and Kathleen (Charles) Henchey-Taft; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many close family friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial visitation on Friday October 14, 2016, 10:00 a.m.- 11:15 a.m. at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park, .NY.
An Inurnment Service will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
Due to limitation of flowers at the cemetery the family suggest donations may be made to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer Co. 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, NY 12144..
