Poestenkill- Joan P. Mills,
​85, of Tymeson Road died on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the Van Rensselaer Manor after a short illness. Born on October 19, 1931 in Troy, Joan was the daughter of the late John J. and Marjorie Aurelius Tymeson Sr.  Joan was raised in Poestenkill, was a 1949 graduate of Troy High School.  As a military wife and mother, she lived in various locations in Virginia for many years, before moving to the Stillwater/ Schuylerville area, finally returning to Poestenkill in 1977.
Joan received her Associates Degree in Accounting from HVCC, while working for the Town of Poestenkill. She retired from New York State as a bookkeeper after many years of service.  At the time of her illness Joan was still doing Accounting and Tax Preparation for many clients. 
Joan was a former Mary Kay sales representative, an active Gold Star Mother member and officer, served on the local board of the Downs Syndrome AIM High, and stayed active with the Troy High 49ers.
Joan was the mother of Patricia A. (Michael) Walker of Waxhaw, NC, William (Debbie) Mills of Leander,TX, Stephen E. (Jamie) Mills of Colorado Springs, CO, Ellen M. Parchen of Lolo, MT, Anne Mills of Poestenkill and the late Major H. Roger Mills Jr. US Army.  Joan’s sisters Marilyn Gibbs and Gail M. Avery both of Poestenkill, the late Caryll Wilkins, Lois Multunas and John J. “Jerry” (Peggy) Tymeson. She is grandmother of Sara Walker (NC), Ahnna Coates, Terra & Levi Parchen (MT).
The Family would like to invite relatives and friends to join us for a Celebration of Joan’s life at the Lakeview Restaurant, Monday, Oct. 23rd from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. (located at 4 Old Route 66 (Route 43) Averill Park, NY).  Light food will be available as well as a cash bar.  Dress is casual. Joan’s request was for a party, a time to share memories and stories of a woman who did so much and interacted with so many.   
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Joan P. Mills to: ARC of Rensselaer County, Downs Syndrome Aim High Resource Center, Concerns-U Food Bank in Rensselaer & Gold Star Mothers of Albany, NY.
