Poestenkill-Albert William “Bill” Komdat, 88, of Grandview Drive, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025 at the Van Rensselaer Manor after a period of declining health.
Born in Troy and a lifelong resident of Poestenkill, Bill was the son of the late Erich J. Komdat and Grace M. Abbott Komdat and the husband for 68 years of Eleanore Hultgren Komdat.
Bill was a graduate of the Averill Park High School Class of 1954. He started his career at New York Telephone, now Verizon, after High School. He spent many years as a switchman in Albany and at the time of his retirement in 1988 was a Central Office Foreman. He was a member of the Pioneers.
Bill enjoyed working with his hands including woodworking making furniture for his family, he at one time had a large vegetable garden and more recently enjoyed feeding and watching the many birds that came to the bird feeders and loved his chocolate.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his son Timothy W. (Mary) Komdat of Averill Park, his daughters Heidi C. (Glenn) Thomas of Spring, TX. and Tanya M. (Michael) Winheim of Zion Il. His brother Erich J. (Joanne) Komdat Jr. of Kennesaw, GA. his grandchildren Katie (Aj) Komdat, Jessica (Matt) Winheim, Kimberly Winheim, Elisabeth (Logan) Chapman, Karoline (Vince) Thomas, Timothy Thomas, Stephen Thomas, and Sylvia Thomas and a great granddaughter Julia. Bill is also survived by his canine friend Jack.
Funeral Service 10 am Friday, July 11, 2025 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park
Relatives and friends are invited and may also call 4-7 pm on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at the Funeral Chapel.
Interment in Brookside Cemetery, Poestenkill.
Bill’s family wishes to thank the entire staff, especially the 2B wing for the care and help given to Bill during his stay.
