Anita Lange-Burns

d. March 5, 2015

North Greenbush- Anita Lange-Burns, 81, of Van Rensselaer Manor formerly of Rensselaer died on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Manor after a long illness. Born in Throggs Neck, NY, Anita was the daughter of the late Herbert O. and Selma Martinson Lange. While in middle school the family moved to Averill Park where her father built a home on Glass Lake. Anita was a 1951 graduate of the Averill Park High School and had continued her education at HVCC and later Russell Sage College. Anita’s early work career was at the former Montgomery Ward’s where she was a clerk and eventually she went to work at the Sterling Winthrop Research Institute where she was a Research Technician for 35 years. She had retired in 1994. Anita enjoyed being the tour operator for many of the Sterling Winthrop bus tours and enjoyed the many places they visited. Anita had a love for traveling and her first place to visit was Manhattan where she loved touring the museums, parks, seeing a Broadway Show and enjoying a Pastrami Sandwich with a New York Pickle. Anita had a passion for her father’s homeland of Germany and along with her daughter had visited that country along with trips to Las Vegas and Palm Springs. Anita enjoyed nature and the outdoors and in her early years could be found hiking, fishing, swimming and horseback riding. Anita would reminisce about her grandparents farm at Hoags Corners where Anita loved the many animals they had. She also had many other interests including the German Language, reading, gardening, collecting, painting, attending concerts and plays and socializing with her friends from school and work. Anita is grateful to the staff at the Van Rensselaer Manor A1 for the care given to her during her stay along with her daughter Christina for the diligent care and emotional support given to her mother. Anita was the niece of the late Arnold Martinson. Survivors include her son Mark (Patricia) Maguire of East Greenbush, her daughter Christina (Steven Hourigan) Burns of East Greenbush, her brother Herbert O. Lange Jr. of Averill Park and her beloved grandson Matthew C. Maguire. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park on Sunday 1-3 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. Spring Interment will be in the Sand Lake Union Cemetery. If desired the family suggest donations in memory of Anita Lange-Burns may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Northeastern NY Chapter; 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205. Visit perrykomdat.com for directions and private guestbook.
