Averill Park- Arthur L. Mardon Jr., 89, of Burden Lake Road, entered into eternal life on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Yonkers, NY, Art was the son of the late Arthur and Mildred Laun Mardon Sr., and the beloved husband of Bernadette O’Keefe Mardon for 65 years. Art’s family moved to the area when he was a young boy where he attended Averill Park Schools, graduating in 1949. Art served in the US Navy in Korea aboard the USS Pirate, USS Small, and USS Taussig.  He was awarded the Purple Heart and honorably discharged in February 1955. Art returned home and attended college at Siena and NYS Teachers College, receiving his Master’s Degree.  He taught American History at Tamarac School for 3 years and Troy High School for 25 years where he was beloved by students and co-workers, retiring in 1987.  Art loved his family and was always present for milestones and enjoyed hosting Sunday dinners with the whole family.  He served the Town of Sand Lake as Deputy Town Clerk and later as Town Supervisor. Art volunteered at the Town Library, drove for Meals on Wheels, and Jill’s Hidden Gardens.  He coached Classie Lassie Softball and Twin Town Little League and also served as president.  Art was a lifelong active member of St. Henry’s Church where he faithfully served in many capacities. Over the years, Art was a member of Kiwanis, American Legion, and Knights of Columbus. His hobbies included bowling with the former Averill Park Men’s Bowling League, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, a love of classic movies and 50’s music. Art enjoyed his weekly breakfasts with his Troy High co-workers.  He and Bernie loved traveling cross country to attend Naval reunions.  Art and Bernie wintered in Port St. Lucie FL where they were involved in many fun activities and volunteer organizations and cherished the many years the family vacationed on the Cape. Art was recently honored as Veteran of the Game at Yankee Stadium and celebrated the day with his entire family.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children Michael, Bryan (Eileen), and Timothy Mardon of Averill Park, Maureen (Stephen) Hayes of Sand Lake, and Mary Ellen (Stephen) Angrisano of Wynantskill, his brothers David (Sharon) and Paul  Mardon both of Sand Lake, along with 12 grandchildren, Lyndsey, Andrea (Jordan), Patrick, Shane (Katie), Erin, Matthew, Daniel (Rachel) Mardon, Michelle (Jason) Hale, Anthony (Paige) Angrisano, Gina (James) Wisniewski, Ashley (Tim) and Jake Hayes, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by his sister Joan (Willis) Fearnley.
Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 22, at St. Henrys Church 39 Old Rte. 66 Averill Park, with Naval Honors to follow. 
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 21 at St. Henry’s Church.  Facial coverings are required in the Church.
