Averill Park- Barbara Wilson Bowser of Averill Park passed away at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, on Monday, March 27, 2017, after a short illness. She was 92 years old. Barbara was born in Troy, the daughter of the late Charles F. Wilson and Barbara R. Link Wilson of North Troy and Averill Park. Barbara grew up in the movies of the Golden Age of films, the 1930s and 1940s. Her father operated the former Bijou Theatre on the northeast corner of 112th Street and 5th Avenue in North Troy, from 1928 until he retired in 1960. She attended Powers School, Saint Augustine's School, Lansingburgh Junior High School, and was a member of the very first eighth grade class of Knickerbacker Junior High School in September 1937. She graduated from Lansingburgh High School with the class of 1942. She received a bachelor of science degree in business from Russell Sage College, and worked in the accounting field after graduation. After her marriage and the birth of her sons, the family moved to North Greenbush, where her four children grew up. In 1966, she became an employee of the Rensselaer County Department of Social Services and three years later, she was granted an educational leave by the department to attend the State University of New York at Albany School of Social Welfare. She received a master's degree in social work and a certified social work license from the State of New York in 1971. She returned to the department where she worked in Children's Services, the Foster Home program and Adoptions. She retired from the department after 25 years, and soon thereafter permanently moved to Averill Park. Barbara is survived by her two sons, Thomas C. Bowser of Averill Park and Paul R. Bowser and his wife, Annette H. of Ithaca; two daughters, Charlotte W. Bowser of Averill Park and Julia A. Schatz and her husband, James of Stephentown; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth C. Schatz and John G. Schatz of Stephentown. In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Virginia Bowser; her grandson, Andrew Charles Bowser; her sister, Mary Jane Hogan; and her former husband, Richard W. Bowser. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. in the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel, 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake, Averill Park. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Northeast Association of the Blind at Albany, 301 Washington Ave., Albany NY 12206.
