Barry Harlan Davison

December 18, 1956 — April 24, 2023

Albany, New York

Albany-Barry Harlan Davison died on Monday, April 24, 2023, in the ICU at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, New York at the age of 66.  He had been living in Albany for several years and was previously a resident of Dutchess County, Brooklyn and Manhattan. He was very active in his recovery community and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and coworkers.  He celebrated 6 years of sobriety in 2022.  He survived throat cancer which disrupted his life in 2011.

He was born December 18, 1956, in New York City and grew up in Manhattan with his parents Chet and Mildred Davison and his sister, Laurie Davison.  Extended family included Marge, Roy, Toni and Brian Silver.  He was an avid sports fan and loved playing ball with his nephews.  He attended Riverdale Country School in the Bronx and Cornell University.  He had many careers, from driving a taxi in New York City, managing restaurants, selling real estate and working for the NY State Child Support phone line, helping parents resolve issues.

He was married to Randi Sackheim from 1997 to 2013, and Randi is still a close member of Barry’s family.

He is survived by an extended family of nephews, Jeffrey and Gregory Dyer, in-laws Scott Dyer and Barbara Lordi, cousins Adrienne Rogove, Beverly Busman and Eric Cohen, near-siblings Toni and Brian Silver, former wife Randi Sackheim and step-son Jake Thomases, college friend Noah and childhood friend Brent, and a large community of friends from recovery and work.

He was predeceased by his parents and sister.

A private memorial is planned this summer at the Silver Lake family home outside of Rhinebeck, New York.  His ashes will join those of his father in this lovely setting where he and his sister spent much of their childhood.

Special thanks to his recovery community and sponsor, his coworkers and roommate who were his source of strength for the last part of his life.
