Averill Park-Charles H. “Chick” Smyth Jr., 86, of Rte. 43, left for his last hunt on Thursday, August 4, 2022 after a time of failing health. Born in Troy, Chick was the son of the late Charles H. and Mildred Gundrum Smyth Sr. and husband of the late Paulette Hoffman Smyth. Chick was a lifelong resident of the area and was a 1954 graduate of the Averill Park High School. Chick served in the Army from 1955 to 1957. He worked for Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation for 37 years. At the time if his retirement in 1993 he was a Chief Line Mechanic. Chick was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had traveled around the US on many occasions for big game hunts.
Chick was a member of the Church of the Covenant United Methodist in Averill Park, the Averill Park Fish & Game Club, Stephentown Valley Rod & Gun Club, Albany Elks Post 49 and was a life member of the Perry Williams VFW Post in Sand Lake. Chick was an avid golfer and former league member and loved his family, friends, country and his dogs.
Survivors include his son Michael R. (Marilyn Widmer) Smyth of Averill Park, Brenda L. (Donald) Nelson of Houston, TX and Susan T. (Ian) Tocher of Atlanta, GA, his grandchildren Robert and Samuel and his canine companion Coda.
Chick was the brother of the late James Smyth.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 4-5:30 pm on Monday, August 8 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake followed by a Memorial Service at 5:30.
