Clifton Park- Charles “Jack” Taft of Clifton Park, died on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Samaritan Hospital. Born in Chattanooga, TN, Jack was the son of the late Charles H. and Irene Hograf Taft and the beloved husband of Kathleen Henchey - Taft. Jack grew up in the Poughkeepsie, NY area and was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. He entered the Marine Corp in July of 1969 and served in Vietnam on the DMZ border. Jack was a recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries received while serving. He was Honorably Discharged in March of 1971. Jack returned home where he entered Dutchess Co. Community College and received his associate degree. He moved to the Albany area in the mid - 70’s, first employed by SUNY-Albany University Police. One of his first assignments there was as Chauffeur to SUNY Chancellor Clifton R. Wharton Jr., a job that lent itself to many interesting stories and travel. He was then hired by NYS Insurance Fund, working in both the Albany and White Plains district offices, for the remainder of his state service, retiring in 2007 as Supervisor of the Claims Investigation Unit in White Plains.
Jack had a great sense of humor and was a good story teller, he enjoyed time spent in the casinos and was often a “Luckie Louie” in his play.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his two well – loved “Doggers” Amy and Mandy; his sister Margie (Donald) Lofstrom of Vashon, WA; a cousin Jane (Larry) Laughlin of Woodbine, MD; and many loving in-laws and friends through his extended Henchey family.
Jacks family thank the nurses, staff and doctors, especially Dr. David Strumpf, for their care during this difficult time.
Relatives and friends are invited to a time of visitation 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 4 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park, NY.
Jack will be interred at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the future.
Since flowers fade quickly, his family request donations in memory of Charles J. Taft be made to the SPCA of Upstate NY, 588 Queensbury, Ave. Queensbury, NY 12804
