Averill Park-Elizabeth Dickson Lang, 87, wife of the Honorable Conrad H. Lang, Jr., of Glass Lake entered eternal life on July 22, 2022 after a valiant 2-year health battle. She was the daughter of the late Harvey Dickson and Elizabeth Moulton Dickson of Troy.
"Bette" was born in Troy, attended Troy High School and graduated from Russell Sage College in 1956. She taught in the Averill Park Central School District for 26 years, was loved and respected by her numerous students, and never forgot a name or face.
In addition to being an admired teacher and role model for hundreds, she juggled returning to school for her Master’s Degree in Education, raising three children, caring for elderly parents and aunts, bringing animals into her home and being a loving wife.
She was a former member of the Junior League of Troy and Troy Country Club. During a portion of her retirement, she lived with her husband on a cabin cruiser in Lighthouse Point, Florida; and spent many winters enjoying their boating, and in later years, their condo. Bette was a long-time communicant of St. Henry's Church and for many years, a choir member. Her devotion to God and the Blessed Mother was integral to her life as a young woman through her final days.
Bette effortlessly lit up a room with her effervescent and humorous outlook, infectious laugh and genuine concern for those in her presence. At Russell Sage College she was labeled an “excellent tonic for depressed spirits.” Anyone who had the honor of knowing her would agree. She embraced life fully until her last moments.
She was a selfless mother and dedicated wife whose priorities were clearly family, faith and friends.
Bette is survived by husband Conrad Lang, and children Valerie Lang Waldin (William), Jeffrey Lang (Linda Budesheim) and Lisa Lang Karam (James). In addition to her husband and children she is survived by nine beloved grandchildren: Andrew, Diana, Elizabeth, Matthew, Joseph, Maya, Aaron, Shia and Alan. She is also survived by her dear brother Harvey Dickson (Marion Drzewiecki) who was regularly at her side during her mighty battle, brother-in-law John M. Lang (the late Ellen Kenney Lang), sister-in-law Dana Lang Carpentier (David), several adored nieces and nephews and lifelong friend Barbara Carboni Clemens, as well as her steadfast and loyal private duty nurse Lori Cicciari who became a cherished family member.
