Averill Park-Elizabeth M. "Betty" Turner, 89, passed away on April 22, 2026, at her home in Averill Park, New York, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 5, 1936, in Troy, New York, Betty lived a life defined by warmth, devotion, and an extraordinary ability to connect with everyone she met
Betty was, above all else, a people person. She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. Whether she was chatting with a neighbor at the grocery store or catching up with old friends at bowling league, her genuine interest in others made people feel seen and valued. She had a gift for friendship, and those who knew her understood just how lucky they were to be in her circle.
A woman of remarkable capability, Betty managed her former husband Arthur Herman Sr construction business while also building a successful career in real estate sales and appraisal. She balanced these professional responsibilities with the extraordinary task of raising six children, and she did it all with grace and determination. Beyond her family and career, Betty was deeply involved in her community. She was an active member of St. Henry's Church and school, where she gave generously of her time and energy. She also enjoyed her years with the Red Hat Society, her local Home Bureau chapter, and her beloved bowling leagues, all of which gave her yet another opportunity to do what she did best: bring people together and make them laugh.
Betty had 6 children with her first husband the late Arthur E. Herman Sr.. She was the mother of the late Lori Nebitt- Hillman (Doug), and sister of the late Jeanne L. Petropol.
Betty is survived by her loving husband, Terry D. Turner; her son Arthur E. (Cyndi) Herman; her daughters Bonnie (Joe Stevens) Herman, Darcy (late Harry) Houser, and Denise (Rick Glasser) Herman and her son Matthew (late Magan Fairlie) Herman 2 step children Jennifer and Jackie her sisters Beverly Cootware and Carol (Donald) Turner; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren, all of whom carry pieces of her spirit with them.
Betty's faith was the foundation of her life. A devoted Catholic and faithful member of her parish, she drew strength and comfort from her relationship with God throughout her years, and especially during her final days. Her family takes peace in knowing that she now rests in the arms of her Lord and Savior, reunited with those who went before her.
