North Greenbush- Elsie M. Rathbun, 88, of Van Rensselaer Manor a longtime resident of West Stephentown died on Thursday, October 20, 2016 after a short illness. Born in Stephentown Elsie was the daughter of the late Morton and Grace Griffin Culver and wife of the late William “Wimp” Rathbun. Elsie had resided in West Stephentown for most of her life and had lived in Nassau Village for a time before moving to the Manor earlier this year. Elsie had worked and retired from the Averill Park School District where she had been a food service worker. Many years ago she had worked for Montgomery Wards in the payroll dept. and the cash sales dept. Elsie was a longtime member of the West Stephentown Baptist Church and the Southern Tier Senior Center in Nassau.
Elsie was the mother of the late William V. “Barney” Rathbun and David Rathbun and sister of the late Florence Teal, Evelyn Miller, Phyllis Miranda and Willis Culver.
Survivors include her brother Harry W. “Bear” Culver of Sand Lake, her granddaughter Tina Plamann and great-granddaughter Shelby Plamann of Minnesota and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
