Marana, AZ- Ernest J. “Hanzie” Maier Jr., 63, of West Oatman Road, died suddenly at his residence on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Born in Troy, Hanzie was the son of the late Ernest and Margaret Kelly Maier Sr. and husband of the late Judy M. Spallane Maier. Hanzie was raised in the area of Burden Lake and spent most of his life in the Averill Park area before moving to Arizona in January 2019. Hanzie was a 1975 graduate of the Averill Park High School and had worked at Kays Pizza during his High School years. He then worked as a Chef at the Journeys End and Michael’s Banquet House before changing his career to Auto Mechanics. He worked at the former Garstang’s Garage and Al’s Automotive before starting up his own business E&J Used Cars. Hanzie was a Harley Davidson Biker and could be found at bike rallies across our nation. He enjoyed concerts, music, camping and just knew how to have fun and draw others into that fun.
Survivors include his sons Ernest J. (Lindsay) Maier III of Spencerport, NY and Jamie (Candice) Maier of Averill Park, brothers and sisters Colleen (Dean) Barkman, Wilma (the late Arthur) Mosley, Sharon (Fred) Finn, Monica (Jim) Hardy, Frank (Pam) Maier and was brother of the late Robert (Meg) Maier. Also survived by a grandson Jamie F. Maier Jr. and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 4-7 pm on Friday, November 26, 2021 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake, Averill Park, NY
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the Woodlawn Cemetery with the funeral procession departing from the funeral chapel at 9:30 am.
