Averill Park- Fred J. Wurtemberger 80, of Beach Lane died on Wednesday April 3, 2013 at the Fairview Commons Rehabilitation Center in Great Barrington, MA after a long illness. Born and raised in Troy, Fred was the son of the late Jacob and Rose Betzwieser Wurtemberger and was the husband of the late Mary Ellen Teal Wurtemberger. Fred was a graduate of Troy High and a 1953 graduate of RPI with a degree in Civil Engineering and had resided in Averill Park since the early 1960’s. Fred worked for the NYS Health Dept. as a Program Coordinator from 1959-1969 and then went to work for the Rensselaer Co. Health Dept. where he was the Administrative Director of the Rensselaer Co. Sewer District. He had retired in 1993. Fred had served on the Rensselaer Co. Sewer District from 1993-2012 and was a past chairman. He was a member of the New York Water Pollution Control Assoc. and served as their president in 1975 and was a 60-year member of the NY Water & Environment Assoc. and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2007. After his retirement in 1993 Fred was elected Sand Lake Supervisor, a position he held from 1994-1998. Fred was a 50-year member of the Sand Lake Kiwanis and was a past president, a member of the Sand Lake Republican Club, and was a lifelong skier and was also a member of the Ski Patrol. Fred was a Soccer fan and had played and managed the Germania Hall Soccer Club in Troy.
Fred was the brother of the late Margaret Bonesteel. Survivors include his son Scott H. (Darlene) Wurtemberger of Pittsfield, MA, brother Rudy (Mary) Wurtemberger of Clifton Park, sister Linda (Richard) Stewart of West Sand Lake his grandchildren Deanna, Erin, Lauren and Derek, his dear friend Shirley Miller of Stockbridge, MA. Funeral Friday 10 am at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park. Relatives and Friends are invited and may also call at the chapel on Thursday 4-7pm. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, West Sand Lake.
