Averill Park- Gary J. Wieland, 68, of Bon Acre Way passed away suddenly on Monday, July 4, 2022 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after being stricken at his camp at Methodist Farm on Crooked Lake. Born in Cortlandt, NY, Gary was the son of the late Walter and Catherine Kaczor Wieland and the beloved husband of Kim Ann Kingsbury. Gary moved to the area in the mid 1960’s, grew up at Burden Lake, attending the Averill Park Schools and was a 1972 graduate of the Averill Park High School. Gary was a graduate of HVCC and continued his education at Roger Williams College where he received his bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering.
Gary’s career started with AT&T where he managed the construction of the AT&T’s skyscrapers in NYC, and Kansas City before going to the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey where he was the Facilities Director. At the time of his death, he was the Facilities Manager at NYISO in Rensselaer.
Gary enjoyed spending his summers at Methodist Farm on Crooked Lake where he was the Farm Manager. Gary was involved in the Methodist Sunday School Association of Troy and Vicinity most recently as President and was Vice President of the Crooked Lake Association. He also was a member of the NRA and PADI.  He enjoyed boating and water activities with his family on Crooked Lake, along with yearly cruises with his wife. Gary was the toastmaster, storyteller and photographer of any family gathering, cruises or special events. He was the “go to guy”, always willing to help anyone.
Survivors in addition to his wife includes his daughter Kristin Ann (Eric D. Burns) Hill ‘Burns of Ravena, his grandsons Austin Craig and Brycen John Burns, best friend John W. Hill of Averill Park, stepmother Donna Wieland of Florida, brother Mark Wieland of Indiana, sisters Michelle (Patrick) Strollo of Latham and Tracey (John) Post of Florida, sisters in law Lynn Kingsbury of N. Greenbush and Cathy (Charles Walker) Kingsbury of Florida and niece Makenna Post and nephews Cooper Post, Jeffery Wieland & Andrew Wieland.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13th at the Salem United Methodist Church 349 Shaver Road West Sand Lake, NY all are invited.
The family request donations in memory of Gary J. Wieland may be made to the Methodist Sunday School Association (MSSA) PO Box 645 Averill Park, NY 12018.
