Helen DeSanto

d. May 19, 2018

Poestenkill- Helen DeSanto, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at home in Averill Park with her family supporting her in her journey to be reunited with her beloved family members who had gone before. Born in Scranton PA, Helen was the daughter of the late John and Josephine Woitach Kowalski and was the sister of the late Edward Kowalski and Marion Penyak.  She was the devoted wife of the late Charles DeSanto with whom she shared 65 wonderful years.
Helen was raised and educated in Scranton and resided there until 2001 when she and Charles moved to Poestenkill NY.  As wife, mother, and grandmother, Helen saw her greatest accomplishments in loving and nurturing her family.  She was an extraordinary homemaker with a special talent for cooking and baking; she loved nothing more than sharing a meal with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with loved ones, most especially her grandchildren, whom she adored. She was generous with her time and was always the first to step in and offer help to friends and family whenever needed. One of her favorite pastimes was gathering friends and organizing a day of shopping and bargain hunting.  While residing in Scranton, Helen was a devoted communicant of St. Ann Monastery Church and more recently was a communicant of St. Henry’s Church in Averill Park.
Survivors include her daughters Charlotte (Donald) Garrison of Fairfax, VA. and Helene (Catherine Ogden) DeSanto of Averill Park, her loving longtime “daughter” Marguerite Franzini of Loveland, CO. and her grandchildren Charlie Garrison and his fiancée Claire Goldman, and Sarah Garrison and many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to St. Henry’s Church 39 Old Rte. 66 Averill Park on Wednesday, May 23, 1:30 pm where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Interment Service on Thursday, May 24, 12 noon at Cathedral Cemetery Chapel  1708 Locust St.  Scranton, PA.
