North Greenbush- Helen H. Carini, 90, of the Van Rensselaer Manor, formerly of Coburg Village, Clifton Park, died on Monday, October 11, 2021 at St. Peters Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Worcester, MA., she was the youngest of 4 children of the late Hugo and Mari Puolanmaa Hyytiainen and the beloved wife of the late Francis Frederick Carini.  She was pre-deceased by her beloved siblings Aino, Lahja (Hy) and Ilmari (Elmer).
Helen grew up in a close-knit Finnish community in Worcester and Auburn, MA.  Both of her parents emigrated from Finland as teens, and Finnish was Helen’s first language. She continued to enjoy and celebrate her Finnish culture throughout her life, including 3 trips to Finland, where she still has close relatives. Helen earned both a Master's Degree in Chemistry (Clark University, 1954) and a Master’s Degree in Library Science (SUNY Albany, 1970). She met Frank at Clark University, and they married in 1956. After raising her 3 children, she worked many years as a technical librarian for GAF Corporation, then finished her career with the Ocean County Library System in Toms River, NJ, where she continued to work until she was 80!  She loved to spend time with family and friends, and was a wonderful loving mother and grandmother.  Her smile, gentleness, and kindness are remembered by all who knew her.
Survivors include her children John Peter (Cynthia) Carini of Bloomington, IN, William Hugh (Chrysantha Gardener) Carini of Newfield, NY and Carolyn C. (Randie) Sanford of Nassau, grandchildren Arianna (Matthew) Johnston of Chesapeake Beach, MD, Monica Ann (Matthew) Morelli of San Diego, CA., Eric Jay Sanford of Nassau and Daniel Francis Sanford of Rensselaer, and great grandchildren Declan and Kiera Morelli along with numerous nieces and nephews.
