Averill Park- Helen M. Butler, 94, of Rte. 43, died suddenly on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Pines at Heartwood Assisted Living in Troy. Helen was born and raised in Troy and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Walsh and wife of the late Martin J. Butler Jr. who died on December 18, 1975. Helen had resided in Averill Park since 1939 and had assisted her husband in the operation of his service station in Averill Park. After his death Helen worked for St. Henry’s Church where she was the housekeeper at the rectory. Helen was a longtime active member of the Averill Park – Sand Lake Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, AOH in Troy and enjoyed sewing and gardening in her younger years. Helen was the grandmother of the late Christine M. MacRitchie. Survivors include her daughter Lois J. (Joseph R.) Snow of New Milford CT., her grandson Joseph R. Snow Jr. of Washington, CT, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Funeral Friday 11 am at St. Henry’s Church 39 Old Rte. 66 Averill Park where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered.
