Janet H. Hoffman

Poestenkill- Janet H. Hoffman, 91, of Snake Hill Road, passed away suddenly at her home on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Born in Troy, Janet was the daughter of the late Robert H. and Anna Wolfertz Hoffay and wife of the late Edward J. Hoffman. Janet grew up in Poestenkill and was a graduate of the Averill Park High School. Janet met and married Ed when he was coaching at RPI. They would move to Yorktown Heights, NY when Ed took a job with Briarcliff Manor High School. Janet went to work at the Thomas Jefferson Elementary School where she was Head Librarian. Upon their retirement they moved back to Poestenkill in 1989 where they built their home on Snake Hill Road. Janet was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Yorktown Heights and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Poestenkill where she participated in the Choirs. Janet was involved with the Melodramas a singing group that entertained at nursing homes and churches. Janet was a supporter of her son’s sports and her husband’s coaching jobs. She enjoyed sewing and making Christmas wreaths.

Janet was the sister of the late Gene (late Doris) Hoffay and the late Evelyn Kenney.

Survivors include her son Michael S. (Laura) Hoffman of Poestenkill and several nieces and nephews that she adored.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call 10-11:45 am on Tuesday July 28,2026 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park followed by a funeral service at 12 noon. Burial will follow the Brookside Cemetery, Poestenkill, NY.
