Jeanne Marie Philp Hansen

d. July 20, 2021

West Sand Lake-Jeanne Marie Philp Hansen passed away on July 20, 2021. She was 92 years old and was living in West Sand Lake, NY near her children and grandchildren. Jeanne was born in June 1929, the daughter of Tom Philp and Mary Ellos in Hurley in northern Wisconsin. She fondly remembered growing up with her big extended Italian family and many great friends in that close small-town community: living on Copper St., attending St. Mary's Church, being a proud Class of 1947 Hurley High School Midget, and
working at Paul's Store. In July 1955, Jeanne and Oscar Richard "Dick" Hansen married. Jeanne and Dick were married for 54 years. They first lived in Ann Arbor, then moved to other Michigan cities - Detroit, Port Huron, Sault Ste. Marie, and back to Detroit - and welcomed children Dickie, Suzie, Tommy, and Nancy along the way. The Hansens relocated to Plattsburgh in northern New York in the summer of 1964, settling in on Cumberland Head for the next 10 years. Jeanne was a homemaker who cared for her family, had strong friendships with neighbors, volunteered at Mount Assumption Institute high school, and helped begin the St. Mary's of the Lake parish. She was active in bowling and the Home Bureau, and liked to skate. The family was completed in 1969 with the birth of son David.
In 1975, the family moved to Ogdensburg NY, where Jeanne was very involved at St. Mary's Cathedral and with the Community Players theatre organization, and she
volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store. Ogdensburg was home 'til she moved to the Albany area in 2009 when Dick passed away, living at The Atria in Guilderland NY and for the last 2 years at Ludder’s Country Homes. Every summer for two weeks' vacation and then for the whole summer after retirement, Jeanne and Dick lived at The Cottage, the family's place on Lake Gogebic in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Jeanne loved being there - back "home" and with family and friends. Jeanne was a strong person who had a strong personality. She wanted to be around people and in particular loved talking with people. You'd know when Jeanne was in the
room - especially if you were a Packer Backer, from Wisconsin or the U.P., or a paisan. Jeanne also loved singing and dancing, and her favorite - Glenn Miller's "In The Mood" - would always get her going.
Jeanne is survived by her children Suzanne Bianchi (Frank DeJohn) of Manlius NY, Thomas of McKinney TX, Nancy (Scott) Bush of Averill Park NY, and David (Julie) of Ballston Spa NY. Son Richard (Sandy) passed away in 2018. Nona's grandchildren are Cynthia, Alice, Marissa, Aria, Andrea, Anthony,
Joseph, Cole, Bridget, Peter, Lindsey, Eric, Grace, and Ethan. She has 5 great grands (Olive, Henry, Benjamin, Amelia, Ada) and will miss meeting her 6th due very soon.
Jeanne Marie Philp Hansen will be remembered by her family and friends on Sunday, July 25th at St. Henry’s Church 39 Old Rte. 66 Averill Park, NY from 2-4:30 with prayers offered at 3:15 p.m. A mass will be said in her name this summer in Ogdensburg before she joins
Dick and Rich at Lake Gogebic. If you wish to offer a memorial mass, please reach out to St. Mary's Cathedral in Ogdensburg NY, Christ the King in Albany NY, or St. Mary of the Seven Dolors in Hurley WI. Please be kind, friendly and caring to others as Jeanne did. If you wish, make a donation in her name to Community Hospice Foundation 310 So. Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208 or the charity of your choice.
