Niskayuna- Jeannette C. Link, 83, of Ascot Lane and a longtime resident of First Dyke Road in Averill Park, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022 at the Albany Medical Center after a period of declining health. Born in Rhinebeck, NY. and raised in Stuyvesant, Jeannette was the daughter of the late Richard and Dorothy Sheffer Scism and the beloved wife of William C. Link who passed on January 9th of this year. Jeannette earned her Nursing Certificate from the Columbia Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She moved to Oswego where she started her nursing career, moving to the Averill Park area when Bill started at HVCC. Jeannette worked at Samaritan Hospital and while raising her family she did private duty nursing. She went back to work at the Van Rensselaer Manor where she was a charge nurse and retired in 1991. Jeannette and Bill bought their house on First Dike Road in 1966 and left there in 2021.For a number of years they wintered in Port St. Lucie Florida. Jeannette enjoyed traveling and hosting dinner parties. Jeannette was the founder of the F.I.S.H. program in Sand Lake which provided transportation free of charge to seniors in need to get to their appointments. Jeannette was at one time an active member of the Church of the Covenant in Averill Park and a member of the choir. Jeannette and Bill were proud of their home where friends and family were treated to a good time of swimming, picnics and stayovers. When they became grandparents, they enjoyed the weekend visits with the kids.
Jeannette was the mother of the late Wendelin and William C. Link III, sister of the late Norma Hughes and Allen Scism and mother-in-law of the late Eric “Ricky” Wolcott
Survivors include her daughter Susan (Douglas Pataky) Link of Gainesville, FL, her grandchildren, William C. Link IV, Matthew R. Link, Todd W. Wolcott, Jared F. Wolcott and Allison Pataky, great granddaughter Ora Plude-Link, daughter-in-law Sandra Link Wolcott and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 10-11 am on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 Averill Park, NY followed by a service for Bill and Jeannette at 11 am.
Interment will be in the Sand Lake Union Cemetery with Navy Honors being given for Bill’s Naval Service.
The family requests donations in memory of Jeannette C. Link be made to the Church of the Covenant PO Box 306 Averill Park, NY 12018.
