Joan M. Vooris

Poestenkill-Joan M. Vooris, 89, a lifelong Rensselaer County resident, loving mom and grandmother, passed away on Thursday December 22, 2022, surrounded by loved ones in her final days at the Van Rensselaer Manor. Born in Troy, Joan was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Lillian Cronin Ford and wife of the late Norman R. Vooris. Joan was a graduate of Catholic High School, then worked for Montgomery Ward and RPI where she was a payroll Supervisor. Joan was an active longtime volunteer and employee at Joseph House in Troy. Her greatest joys in life were her family and helping others but she also really enjoyed ice cream, going to the beach and traveling- including a memorable cross-country train adventure to celebrate her 65th birthday. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making things for others. She crotched many items for family and friends and was known for her potato salad and cheesecake, and her driving. Joan was a faithful communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill and was past president of the Rosary Altar Society, a Life Member of the Poestenkill Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and volunteer at the NYS Theatre Institute at Russell Sage College.
Joan was the mother of the late James (Jean) Vooris and sister of the late Margaret Anne and Robert D. Ford.
Joan is survived by her children Rita (Rocco) Floess of Averill Park, Thomas (Raeann) Vooris of Poestenkill, Donna (James) Hughes of Poestenkill, John (Heather) Vooris of West Sand Lake and Anne (Steve) Bornt of Poestenkill. Also survived by 16 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Joan’s family wishes to thank the dedicated staff on the A1 Unit at the Van Rensselaer Manor for the care given to Joan during her stay there.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 4-7 pm on Wednesday December 28, 2022 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake, Averill Park.
Funeral 9:00 am Thursday December 29, 2022 at St. Jude the Apostle Church Brookside Ave. Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered.
Spring Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery, Barberville.
