John A. Schmid

Greenville, NH- John A. Schmid, 74, of Greenville formerly of Hull, MA and East Poestenkill, died on Friday April 1, 2016, at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack, NH, surrounded by his wife and children after a long illness. John was born in Gilford, CT, October 8, 1941 the only child of John and Evelyn Prokop Schmid. He was raised in Poestenkill where he met the love of his life, Ruth Coonrad Schmid to whom he was married for 52 years before his heavenly departure. John worked in a variety of jobs throughout his life, but settled and retired from a career as a Journeyman Mailer at the Boston Globe in 2002. John had resided in Poestenkill and Hull, MA and eventually made his home in Greenville where he welcomed family and friends for loving visits, delicious food, and laughter. He was also an active member of the Sacred Heart Church in Greenville. Grampa, as he was known, was a kind man who loved being in the company of others and enjoyed all things outdoors. He could often be found camping, fishing, gardening, and drinking Budweiser at a picnic table.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Ruth V. Schmid; his son John M. (wife Meredith) Schmid of Hull, MA; his daughter Christine E. (husband Jack MacEachern) Schmid of Rochester, NH; his granddaughter Nicole (husband Derrick) Casse of Rollinsford, NH; his grandsons Andrew and Daniel Schmid of Hull, MA; his great grandchildren Isabella, John, and Don Casse of Rollinsford, NH. He also leaves behind his cat, Buddy. Additionally, John lives on in the memory of many friends and family across the country.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 10 – 11 a.m. at St. Henry’s Church 39 Old Rte. 66 Averill Park on Friday April 8 followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow at the Brookside Cemetery, Barbersville
