Averill Park- John J. Wright, 95, of Old Rte. 66 died on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at his residence after a long illness. Born in West Albany, John was the son of the late Edward and Margaret Cox Wright and the devoted husband of the late Helen Coons Wright who died September 26, 2016. John was raised and educated in West Albany and he served in the Army with the 612th Bomber Squadron during
WW II. He moved to Averill Park in 1950 and had worked in many departments of Rensselaer County Government the last being with the Board of Elections. John was a Life Member of the Averill Park-Sand Lake Fire Company, Life Member of the Sgt. Walter Adams American Legion Post 1021, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Perry Williams VFW Post, the Sand Lake Republican Club and was a longtime communicant of St. Henry’s Church in Averill Park.

Survivors include his son George (Evilla) Wright of Averill Park and several nieces and nephews. A thank you goes out to the friends and family that have helped during this difficult time with a special thank you to Bob and Marion Martin, Robin Civitello, Trudy Higgins, Margaret Smith, Helen DePalma and Mary Unser.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29 at St. Henry’s Church 39 Old Rte. 66 Averill Park for John J. and Helen Coons Wright. Burial will follow at the Sand Lake Union Cemetery with military honors for John. A reception to follow at the Averill Park Fire House.
