West Sand Lake- June D. Groat, 88, of Barnes Road died on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital after a short illness. Born and raised in Albany, “Grandma June” was the daughter of the late George and Hannah Gillespie Dawson and wife of the late Thomas B. Groat. June and Tom moved to West Sand Lake in 1965 and June was a homemaker. She was very active in the running of the family hobby farm Broken New Farm. June enjoyed bowling at Del Lanes where she was in a league for many years. She enjoyed scrapbooking, knitting and gardening both flowers and vegetables.
Survivors include her daughters Laura (John) Schreiner of West Sand Lake, Karen (Paul) Stickney of Portland, ME and Kristina (Edward) Fausel of Charlotte, NC, her brother Robert (Arlene) Dawson of Colonie, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. June was the sister of the late George “Dan” Dawson.
Relatives and friends are invited to a time of visitation with June’s family 9-11 am on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park. If desired donations in memory of June D. Groat may be made to the 4H CCE of Rensselaer County 61State St., Troy, NY 12180 .
