Averill Park-Karen A. Wood, 65, of Burden Lake Road died on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Community Hospice at Samaritan Hospital after a long illness. Born in Potsdam, NY on October 20, 1948, Karen was the daughter of Elva Richards Kaiser of Norfolk, NY and the late Frank A. Kaiser and wife of Raymond L. Wood. Karen was raised in Norfolk, NY and was a 1967 of Norfolk High School. She received her Associates Degree in Nursing from Mary McClellan School of Nursing and had worked for 20 years at the former Leonard Hospital in Troy where she was an LPN. In 1985 she changed careers and was a clerk with the NYS Dept. of Taxation and Finance in Albany until her retirement in 2009. Karen was a member of the Sand Lake Historical Society and was a former member of the Averill Park – Sand Lake Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors in addition to her husband and mother include her sister Lena “Lee” (Carl) Taubl of Averill Park her brother Frank W. Kaiser of Leesburg, FL her brother in laws Alvin (late Jeanine) Wood of Averill Park, Roger (Donna) Wood of West Sand Lake her sister in law Patricia Sellie of Castleton, her feline companions Kris and Kitty along with several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park on Saturday, October 25, 2014, 2-4 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 4 p.m. If desired the family suggests donations in memory of Karen A.
