Averill Park- Kathleen A. “Kitty” Collins-Sweet, 81, of Garner Road, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a long illness. Born in Brooklyn, Kitty was the daughter of the late Howard and Catherine Jacks Collins and the wife of Robert D. Sweet of Averill Park. Kitty grew up in East Worcester, NY, working at the family diner and was a graduate of Worcester Central Schools. Kitty was a graduate of the Austin School of Beauty where she became a licensed hairdresser. Kitty and Bob moved to Poestenkill in 1964 where she would run her hair salon Kitty’s Kut and Kurl. The family moved to Averill Park in the early 2000’s after owning homes in both California and Florida. Kitty held various jobs over the years, with her role in sewing machine sales at the former Alfreds Fabrics in Latham, her likely favorite. Kitty was an expert quilter, enjoyed cooking and baking. She belonged to several quilting groups including RoundTop Sewing Group and Hoag’s Corners Quilters. The groups generously crafted and donated lap blankets to local organizations for patients undergoing chemotherapy. Kitty adored her grandchildren and looked forward to holiday baking get together’ s and trips to Dairy Queen.
Survivors in addition to her husband include her daughter Tammy Sweet (Theodore) of Averill Park, her brother Howard “Billy” Collins (Sheron) of Olalla, WA, daughter in law Kasey Alibozek of West Stephentown, her grandchildren Ian and Evan Merrihew, Emily and Mason Sweet.
Kitty was predeceased by her son Jeremy M. “Judd” Sweet.
A special thank you and heartfelt appreciation to her friend Mary Dzembo and family; and former son-in-law James Merrihew.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 4-6:30 on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park, NY followed by a service at 6:30 pm.
