Laura (Lorie) H. Schulz

Averill Park-Laura (Lorie) Schulz (73), passed away on Wednesday September 9, 2026 after a long battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late William Girard and Shirley Girard/Dayton and the step-daughter of Frank Dayton.

Lorie was a graduate of Troy High School and went on to work for the State of New York as a Computer Programmer. She learned to program through her own intelligence, determination and drive. Once she retiredshe worked part-time for several years for Community Maternity Services working with children in foster care.

Lorie was funny, loving, loyal, kind, and feisty and could hold her own in any debate. She loved her family and friends and would do anything help when needed or to just brighten their day. She was one of the strongest women we know and she believed in the importance of hard work and determination. She kept her family and friends close. She believed in helping others and in the sanctity of our democracy.

Lorie was the mother of Shane and Regina Schulz and Grandma of William and Mason. She loved them with all her heart and prayed for their health and safety every day. She got joy from their accomplishments and used her considerable talents to guide them through their challenges. Each of them where always in her thoughts as she looked for ways to encourage and guide. She will be with her kids and grandchildren in spirit forever.

Lorie has been the loving wife of Ken Schulz for 53 years. The have enjoyed so many adventures together to include motorcycle riding with friends, the Corvette Club, wintering in Florida, golfing, exploring the California coast, and Las Vegas strip and cursing the ocean to name a few. They were also avid racing fans and longtime campers. Their marriage was built on mutual respect, compromise and the joy of being together. She loved Ken with her heart and soul and will always be with him in spirit.

Lorie and was the sister of Sherri Girard-Schulz (Don). They were as close as any sisters could be. They learned from each other and used their individual strengths to help each other develop and grow throughout the years. They respect each other’s differences and embraced their sameness. Being married to brothers made their bond even stronger. They had so many wonderful memories together that brought laughter and joy. These memories will live on.

Lorie leaves behind other loving family members: Wayne Schulz (Gretchen). Maureen Hoffman, Niece Erin Schulz, Nephews Alex Schulz, Eric (Rian) Shackett, Jason (Sara) Shackett, Jerimiah and William Hoffman, as well as cousins Donna Cunningham and Jean Waters and too many friends to mention.

Lorie will be laid to rest on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 11 AM at Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel, 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park.

Relative and friends are invited to call on Friday September 18, 2026 between 4 and 7 PM at the Funeral Chapel.

Relative and friends are invited to join us for a reception following the funeral service on Saturday. The reception will be located at the Lakeview Restaurant at 4 Old Route 66, Route 43 Averill Park, NY, 12018 immediately following her burial at St. Henry’s Cemetery..
