Poestenkill- Lawrence E. Nichols, 77, a longtime resident of North Road died on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital after a long illness. Born in Troy, Larry was the son of the late Lawrence H. and Mary Veronica Bulson Nichols. Larry grew up in Grafton and had lived in Cropseyville before moving to Poestenkill where he resided for 48 years. Larry had most recently resided at the Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush. Larry had served in the Army from 1957 – 1960.Larry had been an Operator with Troy Sand & Gravel for many years and in 1978 he was elected to the position of Highway Superintendent for the Town of Poestenkill and held that position until his retirement in 2002. Larry was a life member of the Poestenkill Fire Co and the Sullivan Jones VFW Post., a member of the Mark 20 Sportsmen Club and the Rensselaer Co. Highway Superintendents Assoc.
Larry was the father of the late Kristopher L. Nichols, grandfather of the late Sean Murdick and brother of the late Rita Sweet, Geraldine Davis and Anthony Daniels.
Survivors include his children Kevin (Stephanie) Nichols of Averill Park, Kurt (Jenifer) Nichols of Poestenkill and Kimberly (Tim) Murdick of West Sand Lake, his grandchildren Dominick and Tori Donato, Tim Murdick, Zachary and Anna Nichols and Morgan and Jack Nichols, his daughter in law Shelley Nichols of Poestenkill and his siblings Penny O’Dell, Virginia Fox and Michael, Leonard, Ronald, Donald, Joseph and Fred Nichols.
Funeral Thursday 10 a.m. at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park
Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral chapel on Wednesday 4-7 p.m.
