Seattle, WA. - Lori Jean Herman, 61, lost her long and courageous battle with ALS on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at her home in Seattle with her loving family at her side. Lori was the first born child of Art (Bonnie) Herman of Sand Lake and Betty (Terry) Herman Turner of Averill Park and the devoted wife and best friend for 21 years to Doug Hillman. Lori grew up in Averill Park and was a 1973 graduate of the Averill Park High School. She continued her education at SUNY Oswego graduating in 1977. Lori received her Masters Degree in Geology from the University of Missouri at Rolla, MO. Lori traveled across the country interviewing for geological positions and settled in Seattle where she worked for Hart Crowser, a consulting firm, where in a largely male dominated occupation, Lori proved to be of significant value to the company. In 2002, Lori and her husband started there own consulting business, Aspect Consulting in Seattle. Lori worked until 2013 when her illness was diagnosed and her life was forever changed.
Survivors in addition to her Husband and Parents include her children George and Kayla Nebbitt of Seattle, her siblings Art (Cyndi) Herman Jr., Bonnie (Joe) Herman, Darcy (Matt) Houser, Denise (Rick) Herman all of Averill Park and Matt (Megan) Herman of Weston, FL. along with 4 nieces, 3 great-nephews and a great- niece.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass is 6pm on Friday October 7, 2016 at St. Henry’s Church 39 Old Rte. 66 Averill Park. A time of visitation will be held prior to the service 5:00pm- 6:00pm.
The family requests donations in memory of Lori J. Herman may be made to the National Tropical Botanical Garden at www.ntbg.org for a bench in Lori’s memory or to the St. Peters Foundation designated for ALS Regional Center 310 So. Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208.
