Averill Park- Louise M. Splain, 99, a longtime resident of Rhinebeck, died on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy after a long illness. Born and raised on the Finck Estate in Rhinebeck, Louise was the daughter of the late Matthew and Sabina Lawlor and wife of the late Paul M. Splain. For many years beginning in 1932, Louise and Paul operated a Gulf Gas Station, auto repair, and towing service on Rt.9 two miles south of the village of Rhinebeck. They added Paul’s Tavern in 1948, and Paul’s Motel in 1956 at the same location. Louise loved to write, paint, and play the piano. In recent years her writings and paintings were often on public display. Louise was the mother of the late Gary Splain and sister of the late Matthew, Andrew and William Lawlor. Survivors include her son Paul L. (Helen) Splain of Averill Park, her grandchildren Paul M. Splain 2nd and Kelly F. Splain Connolly and her great grandchildren Meghan Splain and Taylor Connolly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Tuesday August 26, 11 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepard in Rhinebeck.
