Averill Park-Margaret Johnstone Pelech, 85, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loved ones on November, 23, 2025.
Margaret was born in Johnstown, Scotland, to Robert Johnstone and Margaret Woods Johnstone, the eldest of three children. Margaret is predeceased by her sister Jennifer Reed (Willie) and survived by her sister Merva Ross (Albert) of Scotland.
Margaret grew up in Scotland, graduated high school at the age of 15, and proudly served in the Scottish Air Forces as a communications operator. During this time, she attended elocution school to learn proper English and etiquette. Margaret worked as the bar manager at the Officers’ Club in Dunoon, Scotland, where she met the love of her life, Chief Petty Officer Stanley G. Pelech. They married and moved to America, settling at Burden Lake in Averill Park, New York, where Margaret became the beloved “neighborhood mom,” who always had an open door!
Margaret loved walking, swimming, crafting, knitting, crocheting, and creating jewelry—some of which won awards. She worked as a server at Crooked Lake House and Vick’s Place, and later at Miller’s Super Market, Rite Aid in West Sand Lake and retired from Walmart in 1999 before moving to Florida. In Florida, she was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Spring Hill Pigeon Flyers Club and TOPS of Spring Hill. After 23 years in the Sunshine State, Margaret returned to Upstate New York to spend her final two years close to family and friends.
Margaret is survived by her children JenniferLee Pelech (late Stephen DeMayo), Stanley G. Pelech (Elizabeth) and Margaret E. Pelech (Lisa)
Margaret was the mother of the late Robert J. Pelech.
She leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory forever!
Margaret will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family, friends and loved ones.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 2-4 pm on Sunday November 30, 2025 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake, Averill Park, NY.
