Margeorie M. Hixon

d. June 3, 2022

Sand Lake- Margeorie M. Hixon, 90, formerly of Bauer Road, died at Van Rensselaer Manor on June 3, 2022 after a long Illness. Born in 1932 in Williston Park, NY, Margeorie was the daughter of George and Mary Montgomery Don Botterill, both Scottish emigres. Growing up on Long Island, Margeorie lost her mother when she was very young, but made close friends as she attended Mineola High School and Hofstra University, where she met her husband, Richard. They were married for 61 years until his death in 2015. They moved to East Greenbush in 1958 and to their beloved mountain farmhouse in 1964. In the 1970s, Margeorie and her friend Evelyn Christie sewed Goose Hollow Dolls and sold them at The Enchanted Dollhouse in Manchester Center, VT. The dolls had hand-painted faces and individual vintage outfits. In the 1980s, Margeorie managed the Bryn Mawr Bookshop in Albany, where she made delightful friends. Margeorie enjoyed adopting animals, hosting dinner parties, and traveling. She was an accomplished artist (although she wouldn’t admit it), and her talent expressed itself in painting, drawing, writing, sewing, baking, and gardening.
Margeorie was preceded in death by many loved ones, including her sister Martha Don Frank, brother Robert Don, sisters-in-law Virginia Ryan Don and Elizabeth Hartnett Hixon, brother-in-law Donald Hixon, nephew Tim Hixon, friends Barbara and Paul Lurie, and neighbors Ann Muellecker, Kristine Wagner, and Colton Butterfield.
Survivors include her son Richard A. (Antoinette LeBron) Hixon Jr. of Rexford; daughter Jennifer (Timothy Sergay) Hixon of East Greenbush; grandsons Nicholas and Peter Sergay; nephews Michael Hixon, Michael Frank, William Frank, and children; nieces Mary Montgomery, Kate Hixon, Michelle Cotten Hixon, and children; and dear friends Manuel Cruz and Constance Lofrese Bennett.
