Stephentown - Mark Gregory Grochan, 74, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Monday, September 23, 2024, with his wife and daughters at his side.
Born in Albany, Mark was the son of the late John V. Grochan Sr., and Claire Schlotterer Grochan and the beloved husband of Beverly Tavares Grochan. He grew up in Nassau and was a graduate of Columbia High School. Mark enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country from 1967-1970.
Mark resided in East Greenbush from 1970-1977 and then in Lebanon Springs before moving to Stephentown in 1994. In 1981, Mark began his career as a correction officer with the State of New York Department of Correctional Services. He started at the Greene County Correctional Facility and then went to the Hudson Correctional Facility where he retired from in 2004 as a Correction Sergeant.
Mark was a life member of the Rensselaer Elks and a member of the West Stephentown Baptist Church where he served as a trustee. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and cooking.
Survivors in addition to his wife of 32 years, include his daughters Jennifer Smallwood of Schodack, Ashley (Raymond) Rose of Guilford, CT and Abigail Jensky of Schenectady, his brother John Grochan of Pelham, NH, and his grandchildren Marc, Michael, Grayson and Gavin.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call 2-4 pm on Sunday, September 29 at the West Stephentown Baptist Church 1672 NY 43 West Stephentown, NY followed by a funeral service at 4 pm.
Following cremation, Mark will be Inurned at the Gerald B.H. Solomon - Saratoga National Cemetery along with Military Honors.
