Averill Park- Mary D. Johnson, 93, a longtime resident of Glass Lake, died on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at the Van Rensselaer Manor after an extended illness. Born in Schenectady and a lifelong resident of Averill Park, Mary was the daughter of the late David and Jean Dick, Jr.  and the beloved wife of the late Warren A. Johnson. Mary was a 1945 graduate of Averill Park High School where she was Class President and the Class Valedictorian. Mary spent time in Alaska after her marriage to Warren while he served in the Army.  Mary worked for the Averill Park School District from 1963-1983 where she was a Library Assistant and then for the US Post Office at New Karner Road from 1983 – 1990 where she was a secretary.  Mary was a longtime member of the Church of the Covenant in Averill Park. She was proud of her Scottish heritage and had a love for her family, friends, and dogs.
Mary was the mother of the late Mary Beth Johnson and sister of the late David Dick III.
Survivors include her devoted son Mark A. (Jacqueline) Johnson of No. Greenbush, her cherished grandchildren Jason M. (Jessica) Hoffman of Woodbury, NJ, Joshua J. Hoffman of Phoenixville, PA, Brendan C. (Jennifer) Johnson of Roanoke, VA, and her great-grandson Anders K. Johnson. Mary also leaves behind her beloved canine companion Cassie.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 19th at the Church of the Covenant United Methodist 3055 NY 43 Averill Park, NY. Mary will be brought to the Gerald H.B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date for Inurnment with Warren.
If desired, donations in memory of Mary D. Johnson may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society 3 Oakland Ave. Menands, NY 12204.
