Matthew R. Benesch Jr.

August 6, 1983 — December 28, 2025

Nassau, New York

Nassau- Matthew R. Benesch Jr., 42, of Rte. 20 passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at Albany Medical Center after a long battle with colon cancer. Born in Kentucky, Matthew was the devoted son of Matthew R. and Michele Truss Benesch Sr. and the beloved husband of Chelsea Rivers Benesch. Matthew was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Averill Park High School. He was known for his warm personality, easygoing nature, and protective spirit, and he is already sorely missed by all who knew him.

Matt enjoyed fishing and this was the very first connecting factor when he met his wife, Chelsea. After they met, he spent his time logging the land they purchased, building a home, and then building a family. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and was deeply interested in tracing family roots and ancestry.

Matt was a hard worker throughout his life, with the most recent and long-term position being Machinist at CSX in Selkirk, where he was a union member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace workers (IAM) District 19, local chapter 1145.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his cherished 2-year-old son Levi Robert Benesch, brother Kevin Benesch of Stephentown, sister Meghan and her husband Christopher Neumann of East Nassau, mother-in-law Gail Rivers of Nassau, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call 1-3:45 pm on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 Averill Park, NY followed by a service at 4 pm.

Spring burial will be in the Brainard Cemetery, Nassau, NY.
