Paul E. Albertson

September 19, 1952 — July 20, 2023

Averill Park, New York

Averill Park- Paul E. Albertson,70, of Pikes Pond Road, Town of Nassau, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 20, 2023 with his wife at his side, after a long illness. Born in Queens, NY, Paul was the son of the late Ludmilla Shulgin and Edward T. Albertson. Paul had happy childhood memories of the years he lived with his grandparents in Milford, CT.  Paul graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology from CUNY City College but it was several years earlier when he was a student at Queensborough Community College where he met his wife of 46 years, Kathleen Harmon. Paul and Kathy married on April 30, 1977 and moved to Averill Park in 1979 for a slower pace of life. Paul and Kathy became parents to Michael Paul and Jason Matthew and worked hard to make a good life for their children. Paul adored his boys and instilled in them a love of music and the outdoors. He volunteered countless hours to coaching sports and leading the local Cub Scout troop, serving as a role model for dozens of children in the community.

Paul retired in 2011 from the NYS Health Department, where he worked for 35 years. Paul enjoyed his retirement making furniture in his wood shop, brewing beer, routing for the Mets and volunteering at the Hancock Shaker Village. Paul was a gentle, easy-going man who was endlessly intelligent, but would never show-off—always preferring to be on the periphery, enjoying a good laugh with those he loved.

Paul leaves a loving legacy as well as a hole in the hearts of those he leaves behind: his wife Kathy, his sons Michael (Yolonda Nunley) and Jason (Jessica Dardano), his grandchildren Cecil and Jordyn (Michael) to whom he was “Baba”, as well as his extended family.

Paul’s family wishes to thank Dr. Susan Weaver and Staff of NYOH, Dr. Kyle Denniston, and the Community Hospice. They would also like to thank Paul’s many friends, near and far, who have enriched his life throughout the years.

Relatives and friends are invited to call 4-7pm on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at St. Henry’s Church 39 Old Rte. 66 Averill Park and a funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the Hancock Shaker Village PO Box 927 Pittsfield, MA 01202 or the Hoag’s Corners Ambulance PO Box 90 East Nassau, NY 12062.
