Poestenkill- Philip Ernest “Ernie” Teal, 85, of Lynn Road, Averill Park, passed away on Wednesday, April, 19, 2023 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy, after a brief illness with his family at his side. Born in Troy, Ernie was the son of the late Philip A. and Mildred K. Dobert Teal and the beloved husband of Joan Dwyer Teal. Ernie was a lifelong resident of the Sand Lake and Poestenkill area. He was a graduate of the Averill Park Schools. Ernie served in the National Guard from 1955- 1958 and joined the Army in July of 1958 serving until May of 1961. He was Honorably Discharged with a rank of Private First Class and had served overseas doing vehicle maintenance. Ernie went to work for the Watervliet Arsenal and retired on June 30, 1992 where he had been a Machine Tool Operator. Ernie also ran his hobby farm, Maple Lynn Farm, raising beef cattle. He was a former member of the Beef Cattlemen’s Association. He and Joan enjoyed camping and were members of the Jayco Jafari International Travel Club and the Capital Jay’s Camping Club. Ernie was a lifelong member of the Zion’s United Church of Christ in Taborton. 

Ernie was the father of the late Paul E. Teal and brother of the late Ronald L. Teal.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his son Allen E. (Susan) Teal of Averill Park, his sister Audrey (Joe) Trupia of Maryland, and his grandson Hanna K. “Jonah” Teal, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be private under the guidance of the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel, Averill Park, NY

Interment in St. Henry’s Cemetery, Averill Park.
