Averill Park- Raymond H. Smith, 78, of Boylan Road died suddenly on Wednesday April 23, 2014 at the Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in and a lifelong resident of Sand Lake, Ray was the son of the late Elmer C. and Charlotte Ackner Smith, Sr. and the beloved husband of Patricia Millington Smith. Ray had served in the Air Force from 1955-1959. Ray was a woodworker for Collins Lumber in Troy for a number of years and had previously worked for Iroquois Lumber. He had most recently been working for the Averill Park School District where he was in the maintenance department. Ray had spent over 20 years volunteering for the Sand Lake Ambulance. He had served as an EMT and past chief. He was a life member of the ambulance and the Taborton Fire Dept. Ray was a member of the Sand Lake Baptist Church and also enjoyed his llamas. Ray was the brother of the late Esther Goodermote, Ruth Kimmey, Earl, Arthur, Harry, Kenneth and Elmer C. Smith, Jr. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his children, Tami (David) Carpentier, Kim (Kevin) Rooney both of Averill Park and Todd (Paul Hastings) Smith of Troy; his grandchildren, Megan, Breanna, Sierra, Makayla, Hannah and great-granddaughter, Natalie along with his canine "girlfriend" Maggie. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel on Sunday, April 27, 2014 from 1 to 4 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. Interment in Sand Lake Union Cemetery.
