Robert C. “Bob” Dore

Mar 25, 1947 — Sep 7, 2026

Poestenkill, New York

Poestenkill-Robert C. “Bob” Dore, 79, of Poestenkill, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 7, 2026, at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Born in Troy, Bob was the son of the late Vincent Clayton and Elizabeth T. Wilford Dore and the beloved husband of Marie Connors Dore, his wife and best friend.

Bob cherished Marie deeply, and their nearly 55 years of marriage were filled with love, companionship, and a lifetime of shared memories. She was the center of his life, and the love they shared was evident to all who knew them. Together, they built a life rooted in family, friendship, and the simple moments that meant the most.

A lifelong resident of the area, Bob was a graduate of Averill Park High School and earned his Associate Degree in Automotive Technology from Hudson Valley Community College, where he later taught classes. For many years, Bob owned and operated Poestenkill Auto Body. More recently, he enjoyed working his chain-sharpening business.

Bob was a former member of the Poestenkill Town Planning Board and a past member of the Poestenkill Business Association. He had a deep love of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting. He was a member of both the Sawyer Ridge Fish & Game Club and the Bailey Mountain Fish & Game Club.

Bob was also a true history buff and took great pleasure in sharing his knowledge and stories with others. He was a wonderful storyteller, and anyone who knew Bob knew that once he started telling a story, you wanted to sit back and listen. He had a gift for bringing a story to life, and his listeners could easily find themselves laughing, learning, and hanging on every word.

Those who knew him could always recognize him by his railroad hat, a familiar part of his everyday look and personality.

Some of Bob’s favorite times were the simple ones spent with friends. His coffee time in the garage was a familiar gathering place, where friends could stop by, sit around, enjoy a cup of coffee, share stories, talk about just about anything, and enjoy plenty of laughs.

In addition to his beloved wife, Marie, Bob is survived by his sister, Barbara Southard of Sand Lake; his brother, Edward V. Dore of Poestenkill; and several nieces and nephews.
