Averill Park- Robert “Bob” D. Sweet 86, of Garner Road passed away on August 25, 2025 at St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. Born on February 19, 1939 in Troy, Bob was the son of the late Matthew and Mildred Brewer Sweet and husband of the late Kathleen “Kitty” Collins Sweet who passed away on May 23. 2025. They married for the first time in 1964 and settled in Poestenkill. After celebrating the bicentennial, they moved the family to southern California for a short time before returning to the booming metropolis of Poestenkill. Remarrying in 1993, they moved to Florida before returning to Averill Park in the early 2000’s.

Bob was raised on Sharp Rd in Wynantskill and in the Albia area of Troy and attended Troy schools. He entered the Air Force in 1960 becoming an aircraft mechanic and was honorably discharged. He was a hazardous materials truck driver for LP Transportation for most of his career, achieving a safe driver recognition for 31 years without accident or incident. He was also an owner operator, hauling produce cross country. Bob was from the generation that could do it all. He was a jack of all trades. Electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and construction were all in his wheelhouse. He loved riding and tinkering with motorcycles and automobiles. From Indians and Harley Davidson’s to Triumph’s and Jaguars, to old Buick’s and Packard’s’ and the inevitable procession of Pick-up trucks. He was very creative, had a great sense of humor, a redhead’s temper and a colorful vocabulary.

Bob was the father of the late Jeremy M. “Judd” Sweet, and brother of the late James “Jim” Sweet.

Survivors include his daughter Tammy Sweet (Theodore) of Averill Park, brothers Matthew Sweet (Ruth) of Troy and Peter Sweet of Daytona, FL his sister Linda Kelly (John) , daughter in law Kasey Alibozek of West Stephentown and his grandchildren Ian and Evan Merrihew and Emily and Mason Sweet.
