East Nassau- Robert M. Work, 93, of Radley Road, Averill Park passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at his residence with his wife at his side. Born in Buffalo, NY, Robert was the son of the late Millard H. and Dorothea M. Roth Work and the beloved husband for 71 years to Jean A. Wilber Work. Bob was a 1948 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and attended the NYS teachers College in Albany. Bob’s working career started as a salesman and supervisor at the Charles E. Hire’s Company, was a part time taxi driver owned and operated the Hitching Post on Fuller Road in Albany and served in the Navy 1955-1957 serving on the USS Forrest Sherman. Most of his working career was spent on the railroad first as a signalman with NY Central and Penn Central and later an Electronics Technician with Conrail in Selkirk. He retired in 1991 after 34 years of service. Bob was an active communicant of St. Henry’s Church in Averill Park serving as a Eucharistic Minister, volunteering for weekly coffee hour after mass and hosting religious education and bible studies at his home. Bob was active in the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalman for 35 years serving as secretary for several years, he volunteered at the Doors of Hope Food Pantry, where he served as a board member.

Bob enjoyed carpentry, building his own home, including the kitchen cabinets, traveling around the world including cross country trips with the travel camper and spending winters in Florida. He was a photographer enjoying all different media, family history including visiting distant relatives to learn the family story, cooking, and reading books and the daily newspaper. 

Survivors in addition to his wife include his daughter Kimber (Vincent) Musacchio of Melbourne, FL., his sons Stephen R. Work, Daniel M. (Lisa) Work and Paul G. Work all of Averill Park, his grandchildren Angela (Lee) Bradway of East Nassau; Derek Work of Averill Park; Shawn (Aleta) Work of Austin, TX; Lyndsay (Jesse) Osowiecky of Nassau; and Amanda England (Christopher) Oaten of Reading, UK; and 7 great grandchildren.

Robert was the brother of the late Martin Work and Nonette Benedetto and grandfather of the late Victoria Work Hoffman.

Relatives and friends are invited to call 10:30-11 on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at St. Henry’s Church 39 Old Rte. 66 Averill Park followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 am.
