Poestenkill- Roberta M."Bobbie" Ballard, 82, of Snake Hill Road died on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Evergreen Commons Nursing Facility in East Greenbush after an extended illness. Born in Troy and a lifelong resident of Poestenkill, Bobbie was the daughter of the late Merrill and Anna Laibach Zweig and wife of the late Charles L. Ballard. Bobbie grew up on the family chicken farm (Rock Acre Farms) in Poestenkill. The farm is where the Algonquin Middle School now stands. Bobbie was a graduate of the Averill Park High School class of 1950. Bobbie was a homemaker and was involved in several organizations including the Church of Disciples in Poestenkill, where she was organist for many years, the Poestenkill Historical Society, the West Sand Lake Grange #949, the Poestenkill Elementary School PTA and she was a charter member of the Capital District Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society. Roberta was the mother of the late Joanne M. Ballard.
Survivors include her son Charlie M. (Mary) Ballard of Poestenkill, her brother John (Joan) Zweig of Poestenkill, her grandsons C.J. and Will Ballard and her nieces Jennifer Zweig-Herbert, Jessie Zweig and Janine Zweig. Funeral Service Saturday 10 am at the Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel 2691 NY 43 at Glass Lake Averill Park.
Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral chapel on Friday 4-7 pm. Interment Hillside Cemetery Poestenkill. If desired the family suggests donations in memory of Roberta M.
