Romer Jeremy Tschudin, 81, of Chatham, New York, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026. Jerry will be remembered as a caring and thoughtful father, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Born in Poughkeepsie on July 20, 1944, to Gordon Pershing Tschudin and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Tschudin, née Force, Jerry was a graduate of Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School and Marist College.
Throughout his life, Jerry was dedicated to guiding young people in their education. He taught Economics and Social Studies for thirty years at Hudson High School and served as Teachers’ Union President before retiring in 2001. His passion for learning extended far beyond the classroom. He was a voracious reader, with interests ranging from economics and political history to evolution, climate change, as well as anything by David McCullough—and, of course, baseball.
A lifelong fan of the New York Mets, Jerry was always ready to discuss the latest book he was reading or the previous night’s game. When he wasn’t reading or watching baseball, he enjoyed a wide range of hobbies, including woodworking, gardening, cooking, golfing and feeding the backyard birds. He especially loved traveling with his wife, Dale, including their annual trips to Maine and their visits to Gloucester, Massachusetts, where he appreciated fresh fish and scallops.
Jerry is survived by his dear daughter, Jessica (Jay) DiLorenzo, of Schuylerville, New York, from his first marriage to Christine Coxon. He is also survived by the children and grandchildren of his beloved wife, Dale Bonesteel Tschudin, who predeceased him after 30 years of marriage: Kristen George, Scott (Karen) Passino, Stephen Passino, and seven grandchildren.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Sunday, April 26th at 3 PM, at Sand Lake Union Cemetery, 2 Cemetery Lane, Averill Park, New York. A reception will be held at La Perla in Averill Park from 3:30-5:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Jerry’s memory to WAMC Northeast Radio. Jerry was a regular caller to the weekly Vox Pop programs, especially to ask garden or birding questions.
