Cohoes- Ronald A. “Otter” Zakrzewski, 77, of Van Schaick Ave. died on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 surrounded by his family at his residence after a long illness. Born in and a lifelong resident of Troy, until moving to Cohoes in 2010, Ron was the son of the late Jacob Zakrzewski and Blanche Testa O’Neill. Ron served in the New York National Guard 1954- 1957 and the enlisted in the Army from 1957- 1960. Ron was a 25-year employee of Garden Way Mfg. in Troy where he was a machine shop supervisor and also worked in maintenance until 1987. Ron also worked for Central Market, now Price Chopper in No. Troy where he was a produce manager. Ron’s working career continued at the Hoosic Valley School and he retired in 1997 from the Albany Academy where he worked in the Maintenance Dept. Ron enjoyed volunteering his cooking skills to the Salvation Army and for his church, the United Church of Cohoes. He enjoyed fishing, was a movie buff, sang in the church choir and cherished the time spent with his family and his canine companions Peanut and Noop.
Ron was the husband of the late Bonnie Lee Cushine Zakrzewski and the brother of the late Thomas and Joseph Zakrewski.
Survivors include his wife Joyce Knauer Zakrzewski, his children Ronald A. (Elizabeth) Zakrzewski of Huntington, LI., Deborah (Joe) Battaglia of Halfmoon, Susan (John) Napples of Halfmoon, Mark Zakrzewski of Cohoes and Tara (Sandro) Zakrzewski Silva of Medway, MA. His brothers John “Jackie” Zakrzewski of Waterford and Richard Zakrzewski of Menands and 5 grandchildren.
Funeral Service Sunday 5 p.m. at the United Church of Cohoes 123 Mohawk St. Cohoes, NY.
Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the CHURCH on Sunday 2-5 p.m. prior to the service.
Interment with military honors will be on Monday, at 10 a.m. at the Gerald B.H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
Due to floral restrictions at the Cemetery the family suggest donations in memory of Ronald be made to the United Church of Cohoes 123 Mohawk St. Cohoes, NY 12047.
