Averill Park- Ronald E. Berti, 80, of Schumann Road, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Samaritan Hospital, leaving behind a legacy defined by family, service, intellect, and community.
A lifelong learner and a true renaissance man, Ron embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm. He was a deep thinker and passionate reader, with a love of history, always eager for meaningful conversations. Whether sharing insights over breakfast or enjoying long car rides with Barbara, Ron’s warmth, wit, and keen mind enriched every moment.
Ron’s commitment to service was evident in both his professional and community life. For more than 20 years he served as Fire Commissioner for the Averill Park Fire Department, where his leadership helped strengthen public safety and support volunteer firefighters. His dedication was recognized beyond his local community- Ron was included in Marquis Who’s Who for his expertise in finance, fire safety, and entrepreneurship, a testament to his impactful career and civic contributions.
Before retirement, Ron built a distinguished career in finance, founding Wall Street Equities Inc. He was also a co-owner of Safety First Fire Testing, supporting the safety and readiness of fire equipment for hundreds of fire companies. Ron shared his passion for history and education by teaching college courses on topics from American immigration to medieval history, and through op-ed articles and a weekly history blog. A proud member of his fraternity, Tau Delta Phi, Ron cherished the lifelong connections and brotherhood it brought him. His legacy extends through the countless lives he influenced- as a husband, father, grandfather, educator, leader, and friend.
Ron will be dearly missed by all who knew him- his love of family, insatiable curiosity, and spirit will be remembered and celebrated always.
Ron was the beloved husband of Barbara Berti, devoted step-father of Tara DeLuca (Paul), and proud grandfather to Paul Jr., Jack, and Elizabeth. He is also survived by his sister Diana; niece Lisa; sister-in-law Susan (Charlie), nephew George; and many wonderful friends.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at a date to be determined.
