Poestenkill- Ronald W. Henrikson, 86, of Route 66 passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a time of declining health.
Remembering Ronald Wayne “My Man” Henrikson, whose love of sports brought people together. Lifelong New York Giants fan and loved his days at the Saratoga Horse Track.
Ron was raised in Albany and Averill Park and he was a 1959 graduate of Phillip Schuyler High School. He had worked at the Rensselaer County Jail where he was a cook. He resided in Berlin and Wynantskill, moving to Poestenkill in 1994. Ron had been a member of the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Albany.
For Ronald Henrickson, sports were about much more than wins and losses. They were a way to connect with people, start conversations, create traditions, and bring family and friends together.
Ron was a devoted husband, a passionate sports fan, and one of the New York Giants' most loyal supporters. More than the games, races, and wagers, Ron treasured the people who shared those experiences with him. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, generosity, storytelling, and loyalty, as well as the joy and excitement he brought to every gathering.
On game days, Ron could usually be found wearing Giants blue, cheering from his favorite chair, and offering spirited commentary on every play. His enthusiasm made watching the game more entertaining, and those football Sundays became treasured memories for everyone around him.
He also loved horse racing, particularly the excitement and tradition of the Saratoga Racecourse. A day at Saratoga was one of his favorite ways to spend time - studying the racing form, choosing his horses, placing a friendly wager, and cheering them down the stretch. Win or lose, he enjoyed the anticipation of each race, the beauty of the track, and the company of family and friends. He always seemed to have a favorite horse, a promising long shot, or a story about the bet that almost came through.
More than the games, races, and wagers, Ron treasured the people who shared those experiences with him. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, generosity, storytelling, and loyalty, as well as the joy and excitement he brought to every gathering.
He is survived by his daughter Lori, two stepchildren JoAnn (Brett) & Eric (Christine) and several nieces and nephews and 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Madeline, father & mother Carl & Inga Henrikson and his brothers Jerry, Kenny, Richard and Robert.
